Non domestic Energy Assessment. Be the first to become qualified

Become the 1st to qualify as a Commercial Energy Assessor. Join HipCert on the Level 3 Diploma or the combined Level 3 & Level 4 diploma training course.

If you’re searching for a new and exciting opportunity then commercial energy assessment may just be what you are looking for. This is a brand new course which has just been developed and there are very few people qualified in this sector, training now could see you as one of the first qualifed. Phasing in from April, June and October 2008 there will be a requirement for all commercial properties when either constructed, sold, or leased to have an accompanying Energy Performance Certificate. The UK will require a large number of assessors to undertake this role.

This opens a huge opportunity for any person who wants to enter this industry. Properties which will need to be assessed include shops, shopping centres, offices, factories, garages, restaurants, public houses, retail units, and all public buildings including schools, hospitals and colleges. The list is endless.

The role of a commercial assessor will be to survey the commercial premises in depth and collate and gather data regarding elements such as heating, lighting, and construction type and area size. Utilising a nationally recognised software system interfaced with SBEM calculations assessors will input data to generate the non domestic energy certificate.

The earning potential for a qualified commercial assessor at present is unknown; When the legislation commences the market will determine income levels, however, the work is similar to that of a commercial surveyor which would typically generate daily fee incomes of £500 + per day.

Only level 3 or level 4 non domestic energy assessors which have qualified through the ABBE syllabus can undertake this work.

It is envisaged that most will work on a freelance basis and will work closely with commercial letting and sales agents, business transfer agents, construction companies, facility managers, surveying practices and so on.

Level 3 qualification is carried out over 3.5 days at anyone of our training centres. There is requirement for candidates to undertaken some distant work and submit a portfolio in addition to this and also sit a multiple choice exam.

Level 3 allows assessors to undertake approximately 60% of commercial properties, generally small to medium sized buildings which are naturally ventilated

Level 3 and level 4 combined takes place over 5 days. Similar to the level 3 course the candidate will be expected to undertake distant learning and submit a portfolio and sit both exams for both diplomas.

Level 4 allows assessors to undertake virtually all commercial properties. Having level 3 & 4 qualifications will ensure that you will not be refusing any work.

The anticipated qualification time varies from person to person.  10 weeks (for guidance only)

What does an ABBE Level 3 Accreditation allow you to do?

Candidates at level 3 will be qualified to undertake EPCs on basic existing non-dwellings, that have frequently occurring characteristics, which can be modelled using the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM).

Commonly occurring characteristics include simple heating systems, natural ventilation and small (non complex) cooling systems.

The Level 3 accreditation is restricted to site based energy assessment of existing properties, it does not include assessment of new-build properties from plans / design specification. Hipcert's energy training advisors will help you decide the level of accreditation you need please call 0845 680 1082 for further advice.
